One of the largest global software providers in the logistics sector, German company Transporeon, is acquiring Hungarian firm Nexogen—internationally recognized for its AI-based freight planning solutions, the companies announced to MTI.

The acquisition price remains confidential. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter, pending the usual regulatory approvals.

AI-based freight optimization from Hungarian developers

Nexogen’s proprietary innovation can reduce company costs by millions of euros, significantly increase fleet utilization, and address pressing industry issues such as driver shortages, emissions reduction, and low profitability.

The routes of Europe’s largest transport companies’ fleets are planned using Nexogen software, developed by Hungarian mathematicians and software engineers at the company’s Budapest office. Founded by András Kovács and Márk Farkas, the company’s solutions are now outperforming leading Dutch and French optimization software providers in open tenders.

Nexogen responds to driver shortages and sustainability challenges

Europe’s chronic driver shortage, the need to comply with tightening sustainability requirements, reduce waiting times and empty runs, and better control costs create demands that only digitalization can meet.

András Kovács, one of Nexogen’s founders, stated that even after the acquisition closes, he and his fellow owners—Márk Farkas, Ádám Jermann, and Attila Kemény—will continue managing the company. Nexogen’s revenue grew from HUF 1.1 billion in 2019 to HUF 1.7 billion in 2020.

German company Transporeon employs over 1,200 people and has built one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing freight networks, currently involving more than 1,300 shippers, 100 retail chains, and 130,000 logistics providers and carriers. The company participates in 100,000 transport assignments daily, 60% by land, 30% by sea, and 10% by air.

Through its AI- and machine learning-based automated system, Transporeon offers services including intelligent freight tendering, freight procurement, tariff management, shipment scheduling and real-time tracking, as well as freight settlement, payments, and auditing. Headquartered in Ulm, Germany, the company maintains seven regional offices across Europe, Russia, Asia, and the United States. Its revenues have grown by nearly 20% in recent years, surpassing EUR 100 million in 2020.
