As more employees return from home office to physical workplaces, parking costs in Budapest have risen by nearly 30% on average, increasing the demand for workplace-provided parking.

A Hungarian-developed parking management software now helps by allowing employees to reserve spots in advance via an app, optimizing parking space usage. With Parkl, the management of workplace EV chargers can also be integrated into one system.

Smart parking allocation for hybrid work

The timing of Budapest’s new unified parking system—with 4 zone types replacing 27 and higher parking fees, plus extended payment hours until 10 p.m. in key areas—coincides with more companies requiring employees to spend two or three days a week back in the office.

Street parking has become prohibitively expensive, leading company leaders to seek ways to ease the burden on employees. According to Zsolt Somogyi, CEO of Parkl, firms are approaching them to either utilize untapped parking capacity at sites or optimize space usage in office buildings.

“The changed circumstances, especially hybrid work, mean unpredictable parking availability. Dedicated spaces often remain empty while others struggle to park. The goal is clear: to make the best use of available parking spots with the least hassle,” Somogyi explained.

Digital parking management system

The Parkl Office solution effectively handles all office parking challenges using existing technologies in an unprecedentedly integrated way. Employees can reserve spaces in advance via a mobile app, while companies can grant unlimited access to dedicated users.

“With smart parking allocation, 150 spaces can serve up to 1,000 employees seamlessly. Managing access rights is simple and transparent. This saves costs, supports return-to-office efforts, and significantly boosts employee satisfaction,” added Gábor Tóth, COO of Parkl.

Integrated EV charging management

Beyond office parking, Parkl also integrates workplace EV charger management into the same system—covering installation, operation, and full management. Somogyi highlighted that Parkl is the only provider on the Hungarian market offering this complete mobility service in a single system.

Parkl’s corporate client base is expanding rapidly: in 21 office buildings and company car parks, they now serve more than 50 companies and nearly 10,000 employees. The app itself has supported Hungarian drivers for six years, covering indoor and street parking as well as EV charging. With 200,000 downloads, tens of thousands of monthly transactions, and over 400 charging points—mainly in offices, garages, and shopping centers—Parkl continues to grow.
