What did we learn from the smart-building journeys of 2Amsterdam, Danone, and the Microsoft Innovation Hub Amsterdam? 🔎 Last week, BGrid and Smart Edge Solution co-hosted an exclusive event where a selected group of participants from across Europe gained insight into these innovative buildings.
🏢 The bGrid Smart Building Tour events were organized to showcase the operation of the latest smart-building technologies, foster valuable dialogue among key stakeholders, and demonstrate how smart buildings create real value in practice.
This time, the following sites welcomed us:
👉 2Amsterdam (Commerz Real AG):
Martijn Houwen, Head of Real Estate for the Benelux countries, presented how they keep discovering new use cases for bGrid technology in their multi-tenant building. Especially during tenant conversations—such as about temperature issues—the available data greatly facilitates and streamlines discussions. The system’s flexibility and continuous evolution enable the development of new features that better match tenant needs.
👉 Danone:
Renske Goezinne, with more than 15 years of experience in facility and real estate management, shared how the bGrid system aligns with Danone’s sustainability goals, particularly around ESG efforts. Through its data collection and reporting capabilities, it provides the management with well-founded insights, improves stakeholder communication, and effectively quantifies the value of sustainability initiatives.
👉 Microsoft Innovation Hub Amsterdam:
We closed the day with two presentations. The first, by Joris Haverkort, Director of the Microsoft Innovation Hub, introduced Microsoft’s innovation values and how they became an early adopter of technology. This not only put them at the forefront but also contributed to the system’s development. The second presentation was delivered by Erik Felëus, Strategic Advisor at Royal Schiphol Group, who outlined the challenges related to energy supply and the role of real estate in this issue. Using energy more efficiently begins with accurately understanding consumption.
We thank our hosts for sharing their smart-building journeys with us—successes and lessons alike. These events are vital for us to understand where we should focus, what the market needs, and, above all, where the smart office market is heading.
