LG Electronics is showcasing its latest sustainable smart home, the LG Smart Cottage, at the 2023 IFA exhibition. This is a compact, prefabricated home equipped with LG’s most innovative heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, as well as its most intelligent household appliances. This premium housing technology could open a new path in the future of residential living.

The Smart Cottage is a two-story, studio-style home that makes maximum use of available space. It can be easily transported and placed at the desired location. Inside, the space is stylish, calm, and a harmonious blend of various interior design elements. It aligns with sustainability and LG’s “Better life for all” philosophy.

The smart home’s modular elements are manufactured by POSCO, the South Korean steel company, using low-carbon footprint steel to reduce environmental impact.

Innovation and Sustainability

The exterior of the Smart Cottage is equipped with LG’s sustainability-driven technologies, which can cover the daily energy needs of up to two residents. The roof-mounted 4-kilowatt solar panels are connected to the company’s energy storage system (ESS), enabling the home to generate up to 15 kilowatts of electricity per day. The excess energy stored in the solar battery can be used later or sold back to contracted utility providers. The house also features a built-in electric vehicle charger.

User experience was also a top priority in the development of this home. Every appliance is seamlessly connected to the intelligent LG ThinQ system (internet access required). Through the dedicated application, users can easily control devices, configure the entire HVAC system, and monitor energy consumption and the solar storage battery’s charge level in real time. In addition, LG ThinQ provides access to numerous IoT devices that enhance safety and peace of mind, including cameras, motion sensors, and a smart doorbell at the entrance.
